Once a stormy night... A children's poem

I hear the clapping thunder
In the sky above my house.
So, quickly, I dive under
My three blankets like a mouse.

The lightning keeps on flashing
Until the night turns light.
But the howling storm is passing,
And so I say goodnight.

Now the sky is spattered
With millions of lights.
I dream of storms remembered,
And dream of once-a-stormy night.

I wrote this poem for two second grade boys that I tutor. It has been inspiring to watch them learn about poetry and to see their love for reading grow.
