i used to think
i used to think
that you’d always be around
get to see me graduate
get married
have my first child
i used to think
that i’d always hear you say
what do you want for lunch today?
or, what do you want for your birthday?
or, do you want to get some ice cream?
i used to think
that we’d always fight
about what i done
what i had said
who was right
i used to think
that you’d always teach me
lessons on giving
and others
and love
i used to think
that you’d always be
singing and laughing
talking and grinning
right at me
i used to think
that you’d be here for me
but evidently that wasn’t reality
cancer isn’t an easy thing
especially when you leave me
i guess i was wrong
