When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.
~Leonardo Da Vinci

I am the nameless.
I am a child, watching as my home is consumed by the sea.
I am a student, wondering if my family is safe.
I am an immigrant, watching as my homeland is destroyed.
I am a doctor, unable to help everyone who comes through the doors.
I am a businessman, cowering under my desk.
I am a refugee, trying to define myself.
I am a victim, trapped under debris praying to be rescued.
I am a soldier, searching for life among the corpses.
I am a priest, helpless to stem the despair.
I am a journalist, trying to make the outside world care.
I am a foreigner, fleeing my temporary home.
I am the nameless.
I am the lost.
I am the forgotten.

This is a tribute to all those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan whose stories have not been told. All the news articles are about statistics and nuclear catastrophes, not the people, so I decided to write something about those who suffer in silence and shadows.
