"Hakuna matata, what a wonderful phrase. Hakunah matata, ain't no passing phase. It means no worries, for the rest of your life. It's our problem free philosophy, hakuna matata!"~Lion King

Who is to say what am I?
Where is their right to label me?
To categorize us, many try.
All I am, just let me be.

Punks, goths, jocks, geeks?
Unable to find where I fit in.
For identity, everyone seeks.
Someday we may find it, when?

All of us, individuals, different.
No two persons exactly the same.
Will the labels never stop?
Do the categorizers feel no shame?

Must we fit textbook definitions?
Can't we just be ourselves?
About me, there are no inquisitions.
To find the real person, no one delves.

Assumptions run rampant today.
Just ask if you want to know me.
Judgments made on what I say.
These stereotypes, all anyone sees.

This fake, assumed identity.
This is not truly me.

This was a piece I wrote for a school poetry contest with the theme "identity".
