look at me
listen to me
you need to stop

you think you know what you’re doing
but you don’t
you think you know how to stop
but you don’t

you are running
on and on and on
but you are losing this battle
losing badly

there is smoke on your lips
and glass in your eyes
and fire in your lungs

your hands are shaking
your steps are stumbling
your breath is halting

and you need to have
an end

but you
just
can’t

stop

The author's comments:
My grandma has been smoking for many years. Now her life is in danger, but she refuses to quit. This was written about her.
