A Simple Phrase
His uncombed hair, his sloppy clothes, you’d think he doesn’t care,
His half-closed eyes, his glassy glare, you’d think he doesn’t care,
He ignores people, trying to be kind, you’d think he’s very rude,
He only shrugs when you ask how he is, you’d think he’s very rude,
If you saw him, on the street, you might think he’s a punk,
If you ever, talk to him, you might think he’s a punk,
But if you really talk to him, you’ll realize he’s quite nice,
But if you try, to help him out, you’ll realize he’s quite nice,
A broken family, has affected him, he cries when he’s alone,
A cruel bully, has picked on him, he cries when he’s alone,
He got teased, about his weight, he starves himself at home,
He learned his Dad, lost his job, he starves himself at home,
He got detention, for being late, his family has no car,
He said he didn’t, want to go to the party, his family has no car,
He wears the same, smelly t-shirt, he can afford no clothes,
He wears the torn, too big jeans, he can afford no clothes,
In his neighbourhood, guns are fired, he lies awake in fear,
In his street, people die, he lies awake in fear,
At his home, money is scarce, his parents have no job,
At his house, food is rare, his parents have no job,
For you see, through all the smoke, all the mirrors, a sad boy lies beneath,
He pretends, he doesn’t care, but a sad boy lies beneath,
A boy who wishes, someone would ask, “Hey, are you ok?”
A simple phrase, could save a life, “Hey, are you ok?”
