Goodbye isn’t from me to you,
And what I feel isn’t from the loss of you,
It’s said so I can hear those words and
Finally be free.
It’s not your face I’ll always miss,
Or the words you said that my hope was stored in,
But the face of the you I thought you were.
The person in my memories fantasies and plans for the future
That I created and made sense,
That fit so elegantly and perfect in this little world.
In love with the person you were supposed to be
It hurts the most to want fantasy,
And it would be so easy to let it run my life.
But goodbye isn’t for your reaction,
Or a stimulated yearn for the memories I painted,
It’s for the pounding in my chest that’s urging me to not let go.
So finally I’ll know what it’s like to see and hold
Truth, that’s been kept from me for so long.
And no, I never said I wouldn’t hurt or miss or cry
Or feel alone,
And I know there will be times I’ll wake up in regret,
But it will be worth it.
Goodbye is dedicated to the girl that wasted all those years
In love and a slave to the person
You were supposed to be.
