Leap of Life

standing on a ledge
thinking to myself:
do I leap before I look?
feeling the soft wind whisper in my ear
swoosh, swoosh
or do I look before I leap?
the sight of water sloshing below me
slosh, slosh
“Don’t do it, don’t do it!” A kid calls.
I decide to take a chance
go for it
I close my eyes
whispering winds, sloshing water
it seems like a life time before I fall
SPLASH!
that wasn’t so bad
why have I feared leaping off a diving board?
I think I’ll try it again
