Caged
These bars before me
Gleam
In the light around me.
What rests in this
Light?
And what is it
Like
To be free of these bars?
I am a caged bird,
Screaming for freedom.
But all that comes out is
Song.
It’s charming to you.
You want me to sing.
To sing all day
Long.
Do I know any better?
No.
I was always caged.
But I grow tired of the
Bars,
And still I scream.
Please, let me free.
And let me dream.
I won’t remain caged
Forever.
With time, these bars would rust.
Will you then try to keep me
Bound here, forever?
I will not be subdued.
You could kill me.
You could crush my body. But…
You will never crush my spirit.
