Kodi

Her hand
Quietly running down the long muscled neck,
Smooth fur underneath her trembling fingers,
Tears soaking the bristly snow white mane,
She felt the familiar heartbeat in her fingertips,
Heard the slow pained breaths
…and knew it was time to let go,
This was her goodbye.
She gently lifted his heavy head,
Cradled his tired face in her lap,
Stroked his velvety cheek softly,
Watched his kind eye slowly close,
One…last…..time
A tear rolled down her broken face,
Her legs grew cold…
No longer did his gentle breath warm her,
He had left the beloved body lying in the sawdust,
Painful sobs filled the air beneath him,
But he kept rising,
Away from his motionless body,
And the girl,
That would never really let him go
