Unseen

Too young to know,
To understand,
How wrong it was.

Let’s keep this our little secret.

Left alone with him
No one suspecting a thing.
Eyes wander,
Hands explore,
Play,
On such a small girl
Where they never should.

Clock keeps ticking
Hands forever spinning.
The game stops.
Eyes continually caught lingering,
Memorizing childish, non-existent curves.
Trauma forgotten.

Years pass
Signs, painfully obvious
Go unseen by everyone.

Afraid to tell,

Let’s keep this our little secret.

So-called responsible adults
Unable to hear silent truths.
Secret shredding,
Biting the flesh
Leaving invisible
scars.

I love this piece. It reminds me of my past with a family member. It's horrible for a child to go through an event such as this.
