The Tendencies of Us

We find our comfort in the darkness of the shadows.
Living each day behind a veil,
questioning our worthiness in a place of vanity
where the sinners are praised
and the righteous, derided.
Hidden from the gazes of judgment,
protecting ourselves from the deprecation
brought upon us by a disapproving society.
Yet our inner consciences cry out
“Bring light, bring hope, bring right.
Who are you to shield your eyes from the majesty of the stars?”
