Words of the Holocaust
Can’t you hear it?
Can’t you hear their screams?
I can hear them swirl around
In buzzing whispers that deafens the ear
Like the gas
That vile
Malignant
Corrupted gas.
Swirling, just swirling
And it scares me.
Bones nearly exposed
To the harsh, cutting air
Only blocked by
Skin, a millimeter deep
So incredible.
It hurts to look
It hurts to even speak.
Do not deny it
But do not cry
Over spilled milk
Over spilled blood
Blood decades old
What fools these mortals be
We must learn.
Not to mourn the past
But to secure
The prosperity of the future.
Humanity mustn’t stumble
Over ‘what ifs’
And ‘could’ve beens’.
Not when we are already struggling
With what will be.
They’re gone
But they’re everywhere
And everywhere they will remain
Their words are printed paper
Words that fly through the air
Words that are etched into our minds.
Our memories
Our hearts
And time, itself.
Arbeit mact frei
But work will never
Make you free
Greed
Lies
Pride
And hatred
Will never set you free
But the truth will.
Acceptance
Kindness
Love
And hope
Will set you free at long last.
