Strength

This strength I stand on
So fragile and thin
Wearing down.

It's made of nothing more
except you and
I and perhaps my
puppy
The blue sky
The light rain
A baby's laugh
A sunny day
The memories I sit on
And wish were not gone

So when my strength becomes
too little to bear
It shatters and
I find myself sweeping up
the pieces
Much too big for the tiny
pail I try to put them in

So I wait,
Just lingering for you to smile
so I may
patch up the strength I stand on
