Night

The darkness around me is consuming
What I knew to be my town, my home and my city
Daybreak seems so far away
And the stars that usually light the way
Are somewhere deep in outer space to far to say
Fear, eating up my insides, tearing through my courage
Breaking into my mind, like a burglar into a bank
Stealing away all my courage, all my strength
All that’s left is le noir
The black
The feared, the horrid
The place of no return
Where one is lost and all are together
Not a singular, but only plural
For we are the people of the Night
And we are stuck in this black hole
Swirling and twirling and plummeting
Into the unknown

This is my reaction in the form of a poem to the book Night, by Elie Wiesel
