The Unknown
She turned her face against the wind, walking slowly past the old cemetery and the cherry trees. Her life as she knew it was changing. leaving for the great unknown.
She got on a train to a place where the people didn't speak her language, and there were no barns or ranches. She was taken away by the the big mountains topped with snow that stood before her, gleaming slightly from the sun.
The eerie silence that took over the town was frightening. Every face was blank and cold. Perhaps the plague had hit this town like it did her own, or maybe the people here were just bitter.
Alone in her quest to find herself in this new place, an old man stopped her in her tracks. In a quiet strong accented voice he told her, "Go away now child, this here place is not safe for you."
The man disappeared and she was left with no explanation, and no direction, all by herself engulfed by the great unknown.
