You scream and you fight but its all done in vain,
Because the darkness has consumed the light that once kept the thoughts away
With everything gone, now it seems they’re here to stay..

Like a burning book your life ignites
Nothing but the ashes will remain
And even they will scatter like insects across the terrain

Like an umbrella forcing away the rain
You resist the torment of the flame,
The same spark that once brought you joy now only brings pain

All the tears, all the fighting and the shame
All the lies and the fear that comes with your games
And somehow I'm the only one to blame?

Desperation causes us to have the need to put a name, or a face to the cause of our problems. This process is where this comes from.
