Marvelous Minds
Stepping through a lonesome gate
Nannies perch on benches, aiding fate.
dreaming, thinking of the possibilities.
What could happen, where they could be.
The children, oblivious to me,
are swinging, sliding, jumping with glee
that they have managed to score this day.
A whole day reserved for play.
No parents hanging off their sleeves
at last a place where kids are free!
Who knows what happens in their minds,
where are they going all the time?
With the toys that they hold dear,
immersed in travels far from here.
Where tigers roar and vikings collide,
Time stops until they’re back next time.
Into their minds they delve deep
Seeking discovering, ‘till their mission’s complete.
Tabby cats slip gently into sweeping fog.
Concrete blocks become humongous logs,
Sand boxes morph into cavernous bogs.
On the swings they take first flight
Over the sea and into the night.
Be careful of the monsters that bite.
The only sound that brings them back,
Back to the world of this and that,
is the promise of food.
The nannies dutifully bring you home,
to supper, siblings, dad and mom.
Remember today that you have been
Places
Foreign to them.
