Breeding Birds
I dreamed last night that you were breeding birds,
And it made so much sense,
You see?
Because I see you, the way you are trapped;
It only makes sense that you would breed something so free.
And I dreamed, too, that you were lying on your stomach
Collapsed in the school hallway
And that made me sad;
Because I knew why, and I stayed silent.
But as I saw the wound over your heart I could not stay quiet any longer,
And I called the people who would help;
And you hated me;
and I loved you.
And then as I saw your world crumble around you,
Watched your Icarus wings burn,
I saw you standing next to your house on a hill
And from beneath your house flew your two yellow birds.
And I watched them fly from that house on a hill while you stood watching,
And it made me cry.
