Her Steps
She was cautious with her steps
past and through the winter winds
the temperatures that froze the air still
so the only sound she heard was her breathing
stopping in her tracks
she turned to see the way back
but her steps she took were covered
she could never take them back
the billowy snow falling and filling each
caressing her cheeks as they grew numb from frost
the winter wind mocking her as she stared
her horse beside her
his tracks covered too
an air so cold as spoken in Frost’s poems
Turning back to where her fate would lead her
she continued to walk as her steps were covered
No one knew of her departure
or where she was going, neither did she
She would never return, the winter made sure
as the blizzard covered her steps
