The quickest way to a man's heart really is through his stomach, that way you don't have to chop through the pesky ribcage.

Something

It may not be love
It may not last long
but when I hold his hand
I think I understand
what it’s like to belong
It may not be love
but it’s something
He's something
I'm something
We're something
It may not be passionate
It may not be fate
but I feel in my heart
this is only the start
and it’s gonna be great
It may not be much
but it’s something
for someone
who’s so used to no one
and nothing
It’s something
He's something
I'm something
We're something
Why question life
when it’s going so well
I'm finally happy
That’s all I can tell
It's something
wonderful
something special
something great
It may not be love
It may not be fate
but it’s something
He's something
I'm something
Together we're something

Nothing

It wasn’t quite love
It didn’t last long
I thought he understood
That we had something good
But I guess I was wrong
It wasn’t quite love
But he said it
I said it
It’s nothing
Forget it
It was never a fairytale
Cause he never pretends
He was firm he was fair
I can say I don’t care
Now we’re not even friends.
I guess I jumped the gun
But he said it
I said it
I wrote it he read it
Regret it?
You bet it
Was something
For someone
It’s nothing
We’re nothing
Why question love
When it’s over with now
It ended abruptly
And I don’t know how
It’s nothing
Heart-breaking
Nothing tragic
Nothing new
I don’t think it was me
So it must have been you
Now it’s nothing
It’s over
I’m over
It. Nothing.
It’s over. We’re nothing.

This is a Contrast poem, the two pieces are meant to be read side by side. They were written at different times, "Something" was written for a one month anniversary. "Nothing" was written just after the end of the relationship.
