Faith
Faith is taking that first step when you can’t see the whole staircase
Heel to toe my feet creep down those dwindling rickety steps
Screeching cries appear between the soles of my shoes and the aged wood
I manage to drag my feet down one more stair
The old thick railing lets me lean upon him, supporting me as I inch downward
Chasing my thoughts down a cold spiral staircase
Rows of egg-shell colored marble circle endlessly
Clanking down, around and around
Looking to end my continuous frustration
My heart fluttering and my mind running on a fast track,
Round and round, as if all my thoughts could be blended together.
Poking and prodding my mind
Until the bottom step is reached.
