Silent Night
I was nine- give or take
In all honesty
The memory is a blur.
We walk through the door
Mom, Dad, Zack and I
Daisy is sitting there
Beneath the round kitchen table
Howling
“She knows” said Mom.
I pick her up
The howls continue to echo through the silence
My eyes are drawn to the hallway
[Black]
Mom and Dad turn down
And I watch them fade into the darkness.
Grandpas in the bedroom
Right by her side
He hasn’t moved all night.
We’re in the living room
Zack and I
Tears stream down my face
I clench onto Daisy
Holding her tight in my arms
And the tears softly disappear into her snow white fur.
I look at Zack
And for the first time
My older brother is silent.
Everything is. Silent.
