The Burn Through My Body
The cry of the whistle has sound and practice has started
Already so much sweat that it irritates my nose
It drips into my eyes and burns till I can’t see
My muscles cramp like a kink in a hose
My lungs collapse, my breathing has shortened
My legs pumping and lactic acid building
My legs go numb I’m feeling paralyzed
Must think mind over matter to make time go by
When is enough enough?
Is it when you puke?
Or when you black out?
Neither is cute
But you have to keep pushing and never look back
Sports is when this happens
Character is what you build
Exhaustion is what kills
Everything in your body says quit
But finishing practice makes all the difference
