Hot Chocolate and Snowflakes

Hot chocolate and snowflakes
Stockings and mice
Fires and mittens
Sleigh tracks and hay rides
Marshmallows, graham crackers, Santa hats, and down blankets
These are some things I think of in Christmas

Not pumpkins or bats
Or turkeys and jam
Not sparklers and parades
Or swimsuits and waves

But colored packages and relatives
Disappearing burnt cookies
These are some things I think of in Christmas

Red and green outfits
Dotting the street
Silver bells and carols
Given to all that you meet
Frost on your plants
As they wither away
Our hearts get bigger with each passing day

When we think they will burst
With happiness and love
They do and it shows
In that beautiful morning of

When we think of others
Once out of the year
Three-hundred and sixty-four days
Do not add up to all the good cheer
That fills the homes and faces
On that magical day

We sing to old grandmas
About out-of-control reindeer
While in Christmas pajamas!

They look to the sky, just to be safe
And see the big moons’
Shining round face

You can’t walk through the streets
Without a Merry Christmas coming your way
Don’t be a Scrooge
Return it with glee on that jolly long day

December twenty-fifth
The air is filled with cheer
And if you don’t celebrate Christmas
Happy New Year!
