under her surface
she is small
short and slender
soft and slight
her short blond hair falls into
delicate curls about her round face
and rest on her slender shoulders
she seems to shrink away from others
who appear as giants compared to her
she is visibly weak, and her vulnerability
makes others instantly want to protect her.......
her face always appears
crest fallen, ashen
as she tilts her face and
eyes down,
to hide behind her hair
she looks at her self in the mirror
she sees beauty
she looks at her eyes and sees joy
she looks in her eyes,
and sees the hurt that hides there,
in the shadows,
but she can also see a strength hidden there, intermingling with the hurt,
a strength they all ignore
a strength they refuse to see
