A life of silence
Like the bottom of an ocean
Not even a plane
Can penetrate their ears

Thoughts like signals
Concepts without words
A picture show in their minds
The language of puppetry

In the Deaf world
Speech has no meaning
Faces are keys to the heart
Gestures say more than lips

The finger puppets
Pure expression
The core connection
To their souls

The author's comments:
American Sign Language, or sign languages in general, is possibly the most beautiful form of communication ever invented. I wrote this poem with all of my Deaf friends in mind, but especially those who've never heard a single sound.
