A Moment in Water
I am happy.
As we walk
Into the lake.
I am cold.
My feet are crushed
Between rocks
And sand.
We carry the long board
As it whacks us.
The water is cold.
I gotta pee.
My feet kill me.
We swim to a place
Where I
Can’t touch.
I float.
Trying to get up was a challenge.
Go!
I fall
Backwards.
Did a back flip
In the water.
Head first.
I feel like falling.
Into darkness.
I got back up
With water on my face,
Begging for the board.
I feel like I’m being pushed
On water
I fall
Again.
Breathe.
Stop.
It was over.
After all,
Try, try, try.
I succeeded.
