A Moment in Water

I am happy.
As we walk
Into the lake.
I am cold.

My feet are crushed
Between rocks
And sand.

We carry the long board
As it whacks us.

The water is cold.
I gotta pee.
My feet kill me.

We swim to a place
Where I
Can’t touch.

I float.

Trying to get up was a challenge.
Go!
I fall
Backwards.
Did a back flip
In the water.
Head first.

I feel like falling.
Into darkness.

I got back up
With water on my face,
Begging for the board.

I feel like I’m being pushed
On water
I fall
Again.

Breathe.
Stop.
It was over.

After all,
Try, try, try.

I succeeded.

The author's comments:
This is a story about a game me and my cousins play at our cottage. The whole goal of this (or as my teacher likes to say, the "So What?") is to say that it's OK to mess up. You just have to keep on trying, and you will succeed.
