Bloody Fingers
cracked mirrors
and disintegrating skeletons

Peeling flesh
Hollow eyes
and rotten teeth

these images shoved in the dark
so no body can see
the truth of what lies under

under the crystal chandeliers
fizzy champagne
and beautiful innocent faces

lipstick colored cars
candy coated houses
and neon clubs

nobody wants to face the truth
of death
depression
and constant numbness

Shielded from the horror of reality
we play among merry-go-rounds
and dance among sweaty colored bodies

sway to the music in our head
and shun those who lose the twinkle in their eyes

close minded fools
who would trade in sugar coated lips
as soon as the spark fizzes out

why can't we accept what the world is really about?

intoxicated souls
soon as all the innocence and beauty is lost
under we go

under
to the blood hands
the rotting flesh
and haunting smiles

Under
where the darkness stays like metal in your mouth
and the bright lights of clubs never reach you

and here i stand
half way under
the hands of darkness pulling me in
but the ghosts of the past dance out
trying to lead me away
away from where I bared my breasts
my heart
my soul
for just another line
just one more time
bring my ghosts back to me

They try to pull me
back up to the innocence again
but i lost it long ago
I don't belong there anymore

But do i belong under either?

To emerge to this world of innocence again
Innocence you say?
I lost that the day I went searching for you
my sweet ghosts of the past.
