Momma Always Told Me
Momma always told me, that the monster wasn't real
and every night would leave the closet open to show me
But every night I'd open my eyes to see that inside
something was staring, glaring, angry right back at me

Momma always told me that she always really loved me
and when she hit it was always out of that love
But when the alcohol kicked in, when the whiskey came down
I was a b**** not at a gift from above

Momma always told me that things were alright
I wasn't the reason my daddy ran away
But at night when she came home with another man around her arm
she'd say it's my fault so I, had to pay

Momma always told me that the monster wasn't there
It was only in my 7-year-old dreams
but what momma didn't notice was that the monster I saw
was the only that always said that it loved me
