Salt and Pepper
It’s already half past six
And as usual, it’s homemade Chinese food with chopsticks for dinner.
And as usual, I can’t decide which to pick: salt or pepper.
It got to the point in which it wasn’t cool for my dad so he said,
“Son, you better pick quick. Life won’t wait for you.”
“Wait Dad, what do you mean?”
And he told me,
“In life you’ll see, that you’ll go through bitter and sour times,
And the things that are too hot and spicy
Will make you cry.
So salt away sluggish habits,
Pepper up weaknesses with practice,
And your life will be sugar sweet.
Now pick something already!”
And my mom just laughs out,
“Despite the cost, I should’ve bought soy sauce.”
Now, I don’t know about salt or pepper,
But I do know that my parents are the sweetness in my life.
