Corruption
Thou art a drug,
Seeping through the veins of power
Attracting the greatest of men,
Sending them prowling about the darkest of alleys
Thou art a trap,
A glitch in the highest step,
Sending climbers tumbling downwards
Down, down, to the pits of greed and selfishness
Thou art a disease,
Riding the dusty air
Clogging the disturbed atmosphere
That lies here and there
Thou art a rabid animal,
Running wild through the city
Attacking and biting
At anything you see
Thou art a famine,
Spoiling every inch of earth you touch
Driving hungry, driving crazy
You hate peace and happiness so much
Thou art a traitor,
Lying low, going slow,
Bidding your time
Clouding up the wrong and the right
Thou art a weapon,
With a sharpened edge but a blunt tip
Killing not, but simply ruining…
Bit by bit,
Till the ruins remain as ruins no more
Thou art a cancer,
Tempting fate
Quietly growing,
Until its too late
Much, much too late…
