Eyes of the Enemy
Anger and death
Fueled by naught but
Ignorance and bigotry
They say “ignorance is bliss”
Tell that to the families
Who lost fathers and mothers
Daughters and sons
Husbands and wives
Killed by ignorance and fear
Men and women fighting for their country
Brave souls leave
Some never return
National pride and adrenaline
Fueling their every move
Fighting for the safety of their land
Fighting for the ideals of the people
But wait
Who are they fighting?
A faceless “bad guy”
Or another
Fighting for the safety of his land
Fighting for the ideals of her people
And when they meet
It is no simple matter
What can describe the feeling
Of looking into the eyes of the enemy
Seeing the fear
Seeing the patriotism
Trapped inside the spirit
Trying to burst forth
The same fear
The same patriotism
Reside in you
What do you do
When you look in these eyes
See what lives inside them and realize
That the same thing lives inside of yours
And that these eyes of the enemy
Are your eyes

Woah so powerful :o
LOVE IT. I dunno if you were thinking of the Iraq war or just hating America in general but I just connected it with the war and pretty much everything you say is the truth with a very poetic spin to it... my favorite part is either the end or the "ignorance is bliss" part!
War is a given because of the evil in this world. If it wasn't for our brave soldiers, who knows how terrible it would be right now. Especially if no one had stood up to Hitler. Especially if no one had stood up to slavery.
Keep writing!
