Dark Corner

I see a girl
Curled up, hiding away
In a dark corner.
When the light finds her,
She pulls away.
She is afraid to hope,
And afraid to live.
I want to call out to her,
Or reach out to her.
But I feel,
That if I do,
I would be breaking
Some kind of vow.
I feel her fear,
Her pain,
Her hate.
I feel her tears,
Her heart,
Her blood.
And then I realize,
That girl is me.
