the wind blows on a sandy shore
whispering away
imprints I made
in yesterdays
gone from sight
and memory

the past is not tangible
lose it or
forget it and
its gone for good
no bringing back
the feeling
I got from
walking down that beach

walking down the
road of time
things I've known,
things I've loved
the mind is an ocean
washing away all memory
that I
was even here

they say
"I wont forget!"
"I'll be with you forever!"
but drifters like me
we know that time
washes not only
footprints
away

The author's comments:
My father is in the military, so my family is uprooted every two or three years, just long enough for me to make lasting friendships and have them cut short. We are moving again this summer, for the last time, but I am still in a lot of pain and I know from experience that you never really remember that "person that used to go here... you know, that girl... what was her name again?" I was trying to take out my frustration. Other than that obvious meaning, I'll leave the rest of the hidden symbolisms for you to figure out!
