A lie: a false statement or piece of information deliberately presented as being true.
A lie: anything meant to deceive or give a wrong impression.
A lie: what does the dictionary know, it’s a mere book with words,
words that help create lies.

Lies surrounds us daily, we live and tell lies.
Here’s my lie, will you see its truth?
I live in a world of culture and traditions.
Everything is done a certain way.
The way we talk, how we dress, what we eat,
Everything, even love and marriage.

Traditions: the passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation.
A culture in which I live according to traditions.
Culture, traditions, who cares!
What do you know about love?
Who are you to tell me who I can date?
Who I can love?
Who I can marry?
Who I can spend the rest of my life with?
My life is my own

Let me date who I love.
Let me love who I marry.
Let me marry the person I want to spend the rest of my life with,
IT’S MY LIFE!

Why should I have to bear the pains of this lie?
Why should I have to look in his eyes and hide my emotions, telling him I never loved him, and that nothing ever existed between us?
Why should I have to walk away pretending everything’s all right?
Why should I? What did I do wrong except love someone that goes against my culture and traditions?

Traditions: the passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation.
A lie: a false statement or piece of information deliberately presented as being true.
I live a lie, a lie according to my traditions
I tell a lie, a lie according to my culture
We all live and tell a lie.

A lie: anything meant to deceive or give a wrong impression.
Lying is wrong yet we do it left and right without thinking.
Lying is sinful yet we pray to God for forgiveness.
Lying is deceitful yet we continue on like three-year-olds, laughing and playing innocently.
We all live and tell a lie.

This lie I live, it blinds me from the truth,
It takes away my taste of love,
It makes me become death of his confessions,
It forces me to lose my ability to smell his scent,
My love does not exist; everything is taken away from me, gone like the tears that fall from my eyes.

Here’s my lie that I live every night crying to myself, tears falling from my eyes
Heck, why am I still trying to live this lie?
Please don’t take my sun from my sky
‘cause its like taking my heart from my body
A sky without a sun is like a room without light, trying to find your way around in the lonely darkness of an empty room, you’ll never find the door.
A body without a heart is like a flower with no water, thirsty for love, hungry for care.
Soon enough it wilts away, dead and rotten. Now will someone care?

This, my friend, is the lie I live every night, crying to myself, tears falling from my eyes. Now will someone care?
This is the lie I live, do you see its truth?

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem which is based on how i feel about my relationship and how my culture and traditions are forced upon me to follow. I hope it will allow people of my race to understand the newer generation and be more understanding of our generation.
