Everybody’s talking
Trying to talk down
The people they say
They are
By the light
Of electric joy
And fluorescent promises
They say, “Of course I’m happy!”
By night they ask themselves
What happiness is
They dream
Of all the things
They tell themselves
They want
And awake too tired
To remember
Why they couldn’t sleep
