The Time Keeper
Seven forty two
Grab the paper and glue
The kids ride off to school
Edges black
Circular
Glass guarding the center
Like a rib cage guarding a heart
Protecting the most important piece
Eight forty nine
It’s about that time
The class is in a line
Non-stop, continuous motion
Like a river trickling past my fingers
Cold, smooth, always moving
Stomachs are growling
Kids are howling.
Ready to eat some food.
Constant tic-tock
Like a beating heart
Noticeable when quiet and concentrated
It’s after lunch
They ate a bunch
It’s time to do some learning
Bland, plain, and metallic
Like water from a rusty old faucet
Not the most exciting, but very important.
Its sixth hour,
All seeing tower
Watching over the kids
