I should have said it.
The opportunity was there.
I should have seen it,
taken it,
run with it.
Maybe if I had,
I'd be able to sleep tonight.
Instead, I toss under my covers,
watching the scene replay itself
again and again.
Showing me my mistake,
again and again.
Showing me his patient eyes,
watching,
waiting for those words.
Those three simple words
that could have changed everything -
"Make it decaf."

I like it! I even laughed out loud, which poetry does not often do. Very well-written, and the build-up makes you wonder what mistake she made - then you find out she just forgot to have decaf. Clever and funny. Great job!
