We sat there, looking into each other’s eyes.
It was dark.
Quiet.
You leaned over and whispered:
“I want to sit here forever.
Just sit here, holding your hand
Never letting go.”
I looked at you and smiled.
You understood.
The wind, unwilling to disturb our beautiful moment
Quieted down.
The trees stopped shaking.
The waves slowed to a gentle hush.
And we just sat there,
Unwilling to accept
That there was a life outside of this
Outside of holding each others hands
And never letting go.
I whispered:
“I love you.”
You replied:
“I love you too.”
A lone wind gust blew
Through your long blonde hair.
And I thought:
“Can life be this beautiful?”

Then I woke up.

I wrote this about my struggle with unrequited love for a beautiful girl, who is one of my closest friends.
