Stained Glass Window

My beautiful world is shattering like a stained glass window
The light streaming in will always be bright, ne’er darker
But I cannot welcome it with open arms, filled with sorrow
For the optimism afforded should be starker
Yet stark it is not, rather I am unwilling to e’er change
One lovely door has closed, another hasn’t opened
My former outlook on life has become wretchedly estranged
Where I did stand strong, I now sink faster than quicksand

Lord of all, whose hand didst make the heavens’ tears flood all of the earth
Dry my streaming eyes that didst cry an entire river
How did a world void of sadness, full of laughter and of mirth
Grow so sad because of one chance brutally severed?
All of my hopes and all of my dreams, trampled with one foul blow
They are shattered in a bitter heap on the cold floor
Only One soothes me amidst this tedious life of utter woe
Through Him the future’s indeed bright, truth unadorned

Though formerly trampled, optimism has been born again
It was a wilted flower, has grown rosier now
The bright light from the stained glass window has thankfully not waned
But my old perspective has changed and I know how
My Father in heaven always has the best for me in mind
I fell down but my God picked me up from the hard ground
And I have wept but my loving Savior has wiped my eyes dry
When my stained glass window breaks, I know He’ll be around
