Secret of the Seashore
The sea can talk, it breathes secrets to me
Of the fish that swim all throughout the sea
It knows to quietly eavesdrop, to make no peep
On the creatures that whisper while they’re falling asleep
From a small hermit crab to every fish’s glimmering fin
I hear murmurs of the world below, where everyone swims
The rocky agates have no mouth to speak,
But their ears are there, just hidden and meek
The waves have no boundaries; they’re free as the birds
That circle around the sea’s edge, in shallow herds
The seaweed is thick with juicy gossip and news
All about the soldier that forgot about his dues
The small shrimp listen to every contrasting voice
Then repeat the conversation, as though they have no choice
Sea stars float about and pick up bits of random talk
Then put it all together to make a lark that won’t stop
No matter where you go, secrets float all around
And fill the waters with a low, weird sound
The secrets of the seashore are told by the mighty, crashing waves
Then they echo all around the small but mighty stone caves
