Softball
It’s staying late after practice
To become better.
When game day comes,
Opponents are not friends.
Wearing the jersey to school on game day,
Knowing players by jersey numbers,
Not concentrating in class,
Grass stains, dirty clothes, raspberries, sweat,
It’s having nine sisters,
Intense parents in the stands,
Screaming offense and coaches,
Winding the pitch, swinging the bat,
Grilled hotdogs, eye black, smiles, tears,
This is my life.
This is softball.
The game I love.
