I’m Just a veteran

Am I forgotten

Does the public remember

The struggles I went through

To get you to where you are today

Did the public forget

Who cares, I’m just a veteran

I served with pride and joy

Had no care whether I died or lived

I was there fighting the battles

Where was I at the holidays

I was out on those fields fighting
Fighting the battles
The hard times I went through

When am I honored
A few days out of the year
Did I fight a few days of the year
And the public thinks it’s okay
To only honor me a few days out of the year

Always remember
I fought every day
No kiss from my wife
No break from my job
Just a letter from home

And yet we only honor Veterans
A few days of the year
Mighty impressive of the public
Only to honor us those few days of the year

I thought about what a Vetran would think about the world today and how much they are honored for what they did.

Love the poem, it's true that we need to honor our veterans everyday. Not just once a year. They put their own life at risk for us and the only way we can pay them back is honoring them everyday.
