Smorgasbord
I am from near vertical hills
And tragic bike spills
From the West Portal station
To the Daly City mayhem
I am from the smells of Peking duck roasting
To the sounds of a street racer boasting
Who revs his engine
When all he does is scare a few pigeons
I am from tankers in the bay
And bonfires at the beach
To parades in the streets
I am from characters you’ll wish to meet
I am from fast Cantonese
And slow broken English
To smooth flowing Italian
I am from a melting pot of languages
I am from California poppies
And tall purple lilies
To fog over the hills
I am from the Ghirardelli chocolate mill
I am from the city by the bay
That I miss to this day
My heart rests in the streets
Where diversity meets
