Last Wishes Unfulfilled

Just as I was
going to open the door,
a hysterical pleading came from inside.
But opening this
door was a final option,
both expensive and draining.
Still I could not
simply ignore the disturbance
manifested inside the medium,
because this disturbance was my chance.
If I was wrong, the universe would not merely “fade away,” but
would turn into a cold dead expanse, empty of everything.
