Wretched Geese

Geese are melancholy
perpetually sliding
across the sky
Their calls are never answered.
Sparrows,
light and merry,
fluttering in jest
their paths entwined
in mirthful conversation
A lone goose is an object of pity.
A solitary sparrow
cocks his head and chirps
with facetious glee
Alone? he says
I am never alone.
