but I see you biting that
lip-stick covered lower lip
every day as you wait for him.

Lipstick is made from fish you know,
your boyfriend smells like one.
It's figurative, but still you smile
and say you can't smell it.

Fish get wet and so do you
when he tells you he loves you,
because that's what "I love you" means,
you suppose.

But what if one day some boy came along
and actually meant it?
Would you recognize it?
Would you?

You tell yourself you already have that boy,
one night when you have trouble walking home.
It hurts,
but it's only because he loves you.
You deserve it.

Is it?
Do you?

This article is about abusive relationships. I have never been in one but I have seen the affects of them on the people I love.

So sad that this is truth for many young girls...  I love the intensity - it's very gripping. Your use of short lines are killer in this poem!

You have also inspired me to write a poem... Yours got me to thinking of the quote, "Love is blind." I'll have to share mine when it's ready!

All I can say.......wow. I mean WOW, that was amazing! I feel like I could see it, like I was there. Beautifully written. Please look at mine (even though they aren't as good as your's, I write poetry too!) Keep it up!
