"Some people are alive but they aren't living"

I never knew you
I never knew your name
They called you Grandpa
But those words never got a chance to pass through my virgin lips
Some loved you, some hated you

I never got a chance to love or hate you
I never got a chance to talk to you
I never got a chance to hug you so long that I could match your heartbeat with mine
I never knew your name and you never knew mine
I never got to see you smile or see you get mad
I will never get to hold your ancient hand
I have never seen you and you will never see me
I’m writing this poem with tears of wandering and of lost hope
I wonder, why do I love someone so much that I don’t even know?
It’s too late for you to call you by your name
It’s too late for you to even buy me ice-cream on a hot summer day

It’s funny how you never gave me a “hello,” but you want to say “goodbye”
Grandpa! Grandpa! Is that you?
I am your granddaughter you never knew.
