Thrown right at you

I stare at you
Try to figure out what’s going on in your head
Your eyes dart nervously back and forth like a fish
I wonder what I said in my attempt of small talk makes you feel so nervous
You’re like a cornered animal
A wary deer
Should I be so surprised when you bolt?
But will you morph into a lunging wolf?
Your eyes blazing with hurt and revenge
Will you finally tell me everything you’ve always wanted to?
Jaw snapping as the words come out that can never be taken back
Will your words come out and lash at me and you become a bitter stranger I’ve never met before?
When I start to cry at your stinging lyrics will you tell me that I deserve it?
‘Cause I do deserve it
‘Cause that’s what I did to you that night
And you watched me as I yelled at you everything I was feeling that didn’t even have anything to do with you
I watched with selfish satisfaction as tears crawled down your cheeks
But you didn’t deserve it
And I realize now why your eyes look everywhere but my face
How those terrible words I threw at you stayed in your head that night and tormented you with guilt and doubt
And I realize now why you’re walking away now leaving me alone in the room
‘Cause I deserve it
I always really did
